Top Ten Books

It's Not
about Me by Max Lucado

This has to be one of my favorite books.
This book contains so many biblical truths.
I used this book as a youth pastor on a
mission trip and it greatly impacted the
lives of everyone on the trip. Read
one chapter a day and God will grow you.

Max does such a great job with all of his
books, he could almost provide a top ten
list of his own. You can't loose with
any Lucado books.

More Than a Carpenter
by Josh McDowell
Since its release, More Than
a Carpenter has been challenging readers to
ask the question, "Who is Jesus?"

Author and renowned speaker Josh McDowell
acknowledges that while the topic of God is
widely accepted, the name of Jesus often
causes irritation.

"Why don't the names of Buddha, Mohammed,
Confucius offend people?

The reason is that these others didn't
claim to be God, but Jesus did."

By addressing questions about scientific
and historical evidence, the validity of the
Bible, and proofs of the resurrection,
McDowell helps the reader come to an
informed and intelligent decision about
whether Jesus was a liar, a lunatic, or the
Lord.

The Case for Christ by
Lee Strobel
The Case for Christ records
Lee Strobel's attempt to "determine if
there's credible evidence that Jesus of
Nazareth really is the Son of God."

The book consists primarily of interviews
between Strobel (a former legal editor at
the Chicago Tribune) and biblical scholars
such as Bruce Metzger.

Each interview is based on a simple
question, concerning historical evidence
(for example, "Can the Biographies of Jesus
Be Trusted?"), scientific evidence, ("Does
Archaeology Confirm or Contradict Jesus'
Biographies?"), and "psychiatric evidence"
("Was Jesus Crazy When He Claimed to Be the
Son of God?").

Together, these interviews compose a case
brief defending Jesus' divinity, and urging
readers to reach a verdict of their own.

Mere Christianity by
C.S. Lewis
One of the most popular and
beloved introductions to Christian faith
ever written, Mere Christianity has sold
millions of copies worldwide.

Rejecting the boundaries that divide
Christianity's many denominations, C.S.
Lewis provides an unequaled opportunity for
believers and nonbelievers alike to hear a
powerful, rational case for Christian faith.

It is a collection of scintillating
brilliance that remains strikingly fresh for
the modern reader and at the same time
confirms C.S. Lewis's reputation as one of
the leading writers and thinkers of our age.

Case for Faith, The by Lee Strobel
Award-winning reporter and author Lee
Strobel (The Case for Christ) once again uses his
investigative skills to address the primary objections to
Christianity.

As a former atheist, Strobel understands the rational
resistance to faith.

He even names the eight most convincing arguments against
Christian faith

These are mighty tough questions, and Strobel fields them
well.

This is a book of substance and merit, one that will help
Christians defend their faith, especially during the hardest
of times, when they have to defend their faith to themselves
in moments of doubt.

My Utmost for His Highest : An Updated
Edition in Today's Language by Oswald Chambers, James
Reimann (Introduction), Charles F. Stanley
Oswald Chambers, a Scotsman who converted to
Christianity in his teens under the ministry of Charles
Spurgeon, has been affecting Christians with his devotional
words since My Utmost for His Highest was first published in
1935.

This acknowledged classic contains 365 daily readings
that take heady doctrine and make it practical, realistic,
and intensely personal.

With humor and humility, Chambers speaks plainly to the
common man struggling with devotion to Christ in daily
living.

What's So Amazing
About Grace? by Philip Yancey
On the heels of Philip
Yancey's best-selling "The Jesus I Never
Knew" comes his equally important and
tautological treatment of grace, the engine
that powers Christian love and pushes evil
away with forgiveness.

Half Time-Bob Buford
Why did God create you? what is your
purpose? This is not a book about football, this is a
book about your life. What is in your box? What
is your life about? What will you do with your life?

The Great House Of God

Using the Lord's Prayer as a
floor plan for The Great House of God, Max
Lucado introduces us to a God who desires
his children to draw close to him.

Warm your heart by the fire in the living
room. Nourish your spirit in the kitchen.
Step into the hallway and find forgiveness.
No house is more complete, no foundation
more solid.

So come to the house built just for you,
The Great House of God.

When God Whispers Your
Name by Max Lucado
Do you find it hard to
believe that the One who made everything
keeps your name on His heart and on His
lips?

Did you realize that your name is written
on the hand of God (Is. 49:16)?

Perhaps you've never seen your name
honored. And you can't remember when you
heard it spoken with kindness.

In this book, Lucado offers the
inspiration to believe that God has already
bought the ticket-with your name on it.

He Chose The Nails by
Max Lucado
The wood. The thorns. The
nails. Christ's sacrifice has defined the
very essence of mankind's faith for the past
2000 years.

And now, Max Lucado invites you to
examine the cross, contemplate its purpose,
and celebrate its significance with He Chose
the Nails.

With his warm, caring style, Max examines
the symbols surrounding Christ's
crucifixion, revealing the claims of the
cross and asserting that if they are true,
then Christianity itself is true.

The supporting evidence either makes the
cross the single biggest hoax of all time,
or the hope of all humanity.

More than a book, the campaign includes
the first stand-alone workbook, leaders
guide, and video package from Max, as well
as a praise & worship CD from Here to Him
music featuring several of today's favorite
Christian artists.

Morning and Evening by Charles Haddon
Spurgeon
What better way to begin and end the day
than with meditation on the Word of God? This classic
devotional will assist Christians in their personal
meditation by providing, each day, devotional thoughts upon
rising and retiring.

Brimming with Spurgeon's passionate love of God, the
devotionals are just as powerful now as when they were
written more than one hundred years ago.

This full year's worth of morning and evening devotions
will encourage and inspire readers to a closer, deeper walk
with the Lord.

Celebration of Discipline-Richard
Foster
This is not the easiest book to read, if you
want easy, try
Life You've Always Wanted,
by
John Ortberg. This is a great book though.
Richard Foster brings us to an important place, if we want
to grow in our walk, we have to grow daily in our
discipline.

The Ragamuffin Gospel by

Not everyone can look at Christianity the

This will get your mind moving, your heart aching and your
prayers to be out of the box!

Slow down, take a breathe, and sit back with
John and soak up what God has in store for your life.
You will not be able to read this in one sitting, this book
needs time! God will use it to mold your heart if you
let it. I used this book as a basis for a series of youth
talks over a six month period. It is awesome!

Revolution-George Barna
Yes, this book does make my top ten list.
Read it and find out why! This book has alot of
insight into what God is doing in the church now. It
is not a warning to churches, or a movement, it is a more of
a map readers view looking at the landscape of the church in
the USA right now, and how people don't want religion, they
want God!

Your Best Life Now-Joel Osteen
I love encouragement, The Bible asks
us to be encouragers, God encouraged me through Joel.
Joel is a very uplifting positive young man, who is first
book is very helpful, and good easy reading.

Success God's Way- Charles Stanley
Oh, the world, our eyes are on such the
wrong prize! Our schools do such a bad job teaching us
what we call success. Charles Stanley does a great job
defining success from a biblical standpoint. I
have given this book to graduates for years as a youth
pastor. I can't think of a better book to help someone
grow!
